Description
The Church of Sant'Anna in Brindisi is today very little frequented, is deconsecrated and no longer hosts religious rites; it is used only for a few events and anniversaries.
Inside it is still possible to admire the walls covered with frescoes and historical panels of Byzantine-Adriatic tradition.
Among the main frescoes visible on the walls of the Church, dating back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, are depicted: the holy bishop, San Domenico, the Madonna with Child, the Tree of the Cross, San Michele, Holy Knight, the Stories of Santa Margherita and an anonymous saint.
Curiosities
Sant'Anna, as mother of Mary, is considered not only the protector of all mothers, but also of childbirth. It is said that pregnant women of the time came to this Church to pray to the saint to protect them from complications of childbirth and to receive a large amount of milk as a gift to feed their child.
